In a shocking incident that occurred on November 9, a 26-year-old PhD student from India, Aaditya Adlakha, was fatally shot inside a vehicle in Ohio, United States. The tragic incident took place on the upper deck of the Western Hills Viaduct, where Aaditya’s vehicle collided with a wall. Cincinnati Police Lt. Jonathan Cunningham confirmed that Aaditya was found dead inside the vehicle.

Aaditya Adlakha was pursuing a fourth-year doctoral program in molecular and developmental biology at the University of Cincinnati Medical School. The university expressed deep sorrow over the “sudden, tragic, and senseless” death of the talented student. Lt. Cunningham revealed that ShotSpotter, a gunfire locator service, detected gunshots in the area around 6:20 AM. Passersby noticed a vehicle with bullet holes and immediately called 911 upon discovering Aaditya inside with gunshot wounds. The vehicle exhibited multiple bullet holes, with at least three on the driver’s side window.

Despite being rushed to the UC Medical Center in critical condition, Aaditya Adlakha succumbed to his injuries two days later, according to the Hamilton County Coroner’s office. The incident has sparked an outpouring of grief and condolences from the medical school and the wider community.

Andrew Filak, Senior Vice President of Health Affairs and Dean of the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, described Aaditya as “much-loved, exceedingly kind and humorous, intelligent and sharp.” He highlighted Aaditya’s groundbreaking research in the field of neuroimmune communication and its potential impact on pain and inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis.
