Accident – Death – Obituary News : Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Wife and Daughter with Snake in Odisha’s Ganjam District
A shocking incident has come to light in Odisha’s Ganjam district, where a 25-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife and two-year-old daughter by releasing a venomous snake into their room. The accused, identified as K Ganesh Patra, was involved in a marital dispute with his wife, K Basanti Patra, and took this extreme step to seek revenge.

The tragic incident occurred in Adheigaon village in the Kabisurya Nagar area, approximately 60 km from the district’s main city. The couple had been married since 2020 and had a two-year-old daughter named Debasmita. The police have revealed that the accused had procured a snake from a snake charmer, deceiving him by claiming that he needed the reptile for religious purposes.
On October 6, the accused brought a cobra in a plastic jar and set it loose in the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping. The next morning, both the wife and daughter were found dead with snake bites, while the accused was found sleeping in another room.
Initially, the police registered an unnatural death case, but the investigation took a different turn after the father-in-law lodged an FIR, accusing the husband of being involved in the deaths of his wife and granddaughter. Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Jagmohan Meena, stated that the accused was arrested a month after the incident due to a delay in gathering evidence against him.
During interrogation, the accused initially denied the allegations, suggesting that the snake may have entered the room on its own. However, he later confessed to the crime. The police are continuing their investigation to gather more evidence and ascertain the motive behind this heinous act.
