25-Year-Old Man Arrested for Killing Wife and Daughter by Releasing Snake

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Berhampur: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old man was apprehended by the police for allegedly causing the death of his wife and two-year-old daughter by releasing a venomous snake into their room in Odisha’s Ganjam district. The incident occurred in Adheigaon village, located in the Kabisurya Nagar area, approximately 60 km away from Berhampur.

The accused, identified as K Ganesh Patra, had been embroiled in a marital dispute with his 23-year-old wife, K Basanti Patra. The couple got married in 2020 and had a two-year-old daughter named Debasmita.

According to the police, the accused had deceitfully obtained a snake from a snake charmer by falsely claiming that he needed it for religious purposes. Shedding light on the matter, a police officer revealed that on October 6, Patra brought a cobra in a plastic jar and released it into the room where his wife and daughter were sleeping. Tragically, both his wife and daughter were discovered lifeless the following morning, succumbing to snake bites. Meanwhile, the accused had slept in a separate room.

Initially treated as an unnatural death case, the police began to suspect Patra’s involvement after his father-in-law filed an FIR, accusing him of playing a role in the tragic demise of his wife and daughter. Shedding light on the investigation, Ganjam Superintendent of Police, Jagmohan Meena, stated that there was a slight delay in arresting the accused as evidence needed to be gathered. During the interrogation, Patra initially denied the allegations, suggesting that the snake might have entered the room on its own. However, he eventually confessed to the crime. The police are currently conducting further investigations into the matter.

This horrifying incident has sent shockwaves through the community, highlighting the importance of addressing marital disputes through peaceful means rather than resorting to violence.
