Explosion at Chhattisgarh Iron Ore Mine Leaves One Dead and Another Injured

In a tragic incident at an iron ore mine in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, a 21-year-old worker lost his life while another sustained injuries when a pressure improvised explosive device (IED), planted by Naxalites, detonated on Friday. The explosion occurred at the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine site, located approximately 350 km away from Raipur.

The blast took place around 7:30 am when three workers were making their way to the mine. Unfortunately, one worker is still reported missing following the incident, according to the local police. The mine in question has been allocated to Jayaswal Neco Industries Limited (JNIL), but it has faced opposition from Naxalites over an extended period of time.

As the workers were en route to the iron ore mine, they accidentally triggered the pressure IED, resulting in the devastating blast. The deceased worker has been identified as Ritesh Gagda, while the injured worker, Umesh Rana, has been admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Efforts are currently underway to locate the missing worker, Shravan Gagda (24), who was accompanying the workers at the time of the explosion. The authorities are conducting a thorough search operation to ensure his safety.

This incident highlights the ongoing security concerns faced by workers and companies operating in the region. The Naxalite insurgency has been a significant challenge for mining operations, especially in areas rich in mineral resources like Chhattisgarh. The opposition from Naxalites towards the mining project conducted by JNIL has been persistent, leading to unfortunate incidents like this.

The local police, along with security forces, have intensified their efforts to neutralize the Naxalite threat and ensure the safety of workers and locals in the region. Investigations into the incident are currently underway, aiming to identify those responsible for planting the IED and bringing them to justice.
