Lucknow was struck with yet another devastating hit-and-run incident on Tuesday night, resulting in the death of a young man. The incident, which occurred on November 21, recently came to light when the victim’s uncle filed a First Information Report (FIR) with the Gautampalli police station, citing rash driving and causing death by negligence under sections 279 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code. The deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Sachin, affectionately known as Chunga, who tragically lost his life when his two-wheeler was struck by a speeding vehicle in the Gautampalli area.

According to Sachin’s uncle, Lajja Ram, the pair were returning from Telibagh and heading towards Madiaon on a two-wheeler. At approximately 11 pm, as they reached the vicinity of the VVIP guest house at Lal Batti chauraha, an unidentified vehicle collided with them from behind. Sachin was immediately rushed to SPM civil hospital, but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

To enhance safety measures, barricades have been put up at the site of the accident, as confirmed by DCP (central) Aparna Rajat Kaushik.

This tragic incident highlights the ongoing issue of hit-and-run accidents in Lucknow and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws to prevent such incidents from occurring. It also raises concerns about the safety of two-wheeler riders on the city’s roads.

Despite efforts to enforce regulations and issue fines, many vehicle owners manage to evade punishment by not paying the fines. The number of vehicles with PUC certificates has declined over the years, which is concerning considering the increase in vehicle registration. Additionally, the Delhi government’s plan to deny fuel to vehicles without a valid PUC certificate has been postponed due to feasibility concerns raised by the petrol dealers’ association.

In another recent incident, a 27-year-old man lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in Mumbai. The victim, Ashish Yadav, was allegedly pushed by his acquaintance, Ravi Rajbhar, causing him to collide with a divider and sustain multiple injuries. While Yadav was bleeding profusely, a passing truck ran over him, resulting in his untimely death. The truck driver fled the scene, leaving Yadav without immediate medical assistance. Rajbhar has since been arrested by the police following a complaint lodged by Yadav’s brother.

These incidents serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by hit-and-run accidents and the urgent need for stricter measures to deter such reckless behaviors.
