Accident – Death – Obituary News : Car Plunges into Gorge, Resulting in the Death of Woman in Thamarassery
Thamarassery: Tragedy struck the Thamarassery ghat road on Wednesday night when a car veered off the road and plummeted into a deep gorge, claiming the life of a woman on the spot. The victim has been identified as Rasheeda, a 35-year-old resident of Wayanad. The ill-fated vehicle, an Innova, was carrying a total of nine passengers, among whom an 18-year-old girl is currently in critical condition.

The distressing incident occurred between the first and second hairpin bends along the treacherous stretch of the ghat road. As the car was descending the steep slope, it met with the fatal accident, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake. The unfortunate mishap also inflicted injuries upon two children aged nine and fourteen, adding to the gravity of the situation.
The individuals accompanying Rasheeda in the ill-fated car have been identified as Mohammed Shifin, Mohammed Shaan, Aslam, Jimshad, Mohammed Nishad, Riya, Asya, and Shaijal. The car tumbled down the gorge, plunging a staggering 200 meters below the road level.
Prompt response from the Fireforce team proved to be a lifesaver, as they swiftly arrived at the scene and skillfully broke open the car door to rescue the trapped passengers. The vehicle had become entangled in a tree during its descent, posing additional challenges for the rescue operation. Adding to the chaotic scene, a palm tree had collapsed onto the car due to the impact of the fall. The arduous task of rescuing the passengers was undertaken by the proficient firefighters and members of the ghats protection council.
In a bid to facilitate the rescue operation, a large crane was deployed at the accident spot. However, the challenging circumstances of poor visibility caused by bad lighting and heavy rainfall made the rescue mission even more arduous for the rescuers.
