Accident – Death – Obituary News : Retired CIA Employee Robert Hoy Fatally Shot Outside Las Vegas Shopping Mall

Las Vegas, Nevada – The man who was shot and killed outside a shopping mall on Tuesday has been identified as Robert Hoy, a retired CIA employee. Hoy, 69, had recently moved to Las Vegas to care for his daughter, who has autism. The shooting occurred at around 1:36 p.m. in the parking lot of the Arroyo Market Square mall located on Arroyo Crossing Parkway.

The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Hoy’s identity and age but did not release any information regarding the cause and manner of his death. The Metropolitan Police Department has yet to make an arrest in connection with the shooting and has not disclosed any details about the alleged shooter or the motive behind the incident.

Bruce Moore, a friend of Hoy’s and owner of a farm in Cincinnati, Ohio, revealed that Hoy had stayed with him for a week following their high school’s 50th reunion in September. Moore described Hoy as a dedicated father and husband, stating that Hoy had left their Las Vegas home on the day of the shooting to pick up his wife’s prescription medication from the Walmart pharmacy located within the mall.

Moore, who has known Hoy since their days in sixth grade in Fort Thomas, Kentucky, reminisced about their time as football teammates and Hoy’s subsequent military service and graduation from Eastern Kentucky University. After completing his degree, Hoy spent a significant amount of time in the Middle East, working for the CIA and later for private firms specializing in intelligence-related computer software.

Despite his professional accomplishments, Moore emphasized that Hoy’s true passion lay in history. According to Moore, Hoy possessed an encyclopedic knowledge of historical battles, ranging from Napoleonic wars to conflicts dating back to Ancient Egypt. Additionally, Moore shared that Hoy had faced numerous challenges throughout his life, including a strained relationship with his adoptive father, who kicked him out of the house at the age of 18. Moore had provided Hoy with a place to stay during this difficult period.
