A 45-year-old man from Kissimmee, Florida, found himself driving in the wrong direction on SR-589 early Thursday morning, causing a potentially catastrophic situation, according to officials.

The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) reported that the driver, identified as Ramon Luis Rivera, was operating his Infiniti Q50 in the southbound lanes of SR-589, also known as the Veterans Expressway, near SR-568 (Dale Mabry Extension) around 1:45 a.m. Meanwhile, an Acura TL was traveling northbound on the same stretch of road, unaware of the imminent danger approaching.

The collision was narrowly avoided as the two vehicles came within seconds of a head-on crash, thanks to the quick reactions of the Acura driver. However, the 21-year-old man from Trinity, Florida, behind the wheel of the Acura suffered serious injuries in the incident and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
