Accident – Death – Obituary News : Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district have killed another terrorist belonging to the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) group, bringing the total number of terrorists killed in the ongoing encounter to two. According to officials quoted by news agency ANI, the slain terrorist was identified as a highly-ranked leader of LeT.

The encounter between the terrorists and the joint forces of the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police broke out in the Bajimaal area of Dharmsal in Rajouri on Wednesday. After a night-long halt, the fresh firing resumed on Thursday morning. The operation was launched based on specific intelligence and covers areas including the Kalakote Area, Gulabgarh Forest, and Rajouri District.

The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps stated that contact with the terrorists was established on November 22, leading to an intense firefight. The terrorists have been injured and surrounded, and operations are currently in progress. The Indian Army has shown great valor and sacrifice in their efforts to prevent collateral damage to women and children.

As part of the operation, the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police recovered a significant amount of ammunition and explosives, including one pistol, two magazines, 38 live rounds, nine grenades, and one battery-operated improvised explosive device (IED) dropped through a Quadcopter in the Laukikhad area of the Akhnoor sector. This recovery has prevented further terror attacks in the Rajouri-Poonch region, according to the White Knight Corps.

Unfortunately, during the encounter, four Army personnel, including two officers and two jawans, were killed, and two others sustained injuries. The deceased officers have been identified as Captain M V Pranjal of 63 Rastriya Rifles, a resident of Karnataka, and Captain Shubham of the Special Forces, a resident of Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The jawans who lost their lives are Havaldar Abdul Majid of the Special Force, a resident of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, and Lance Naik Sanjay Bist of Nainital in Uttarakhand.

Among the terrorists killed, one has been identified as Quari, a Pakistani national and a hardcore terrorist. He had received training on the Pakistani and Afghan fronts. Quari was active in Rajouri-Poonch for the past year and was believed to be the mastermind behind the Dangri and Kandi attacks. He possessed expertise in handling IEDs, operating and hiding in caves, and sniper training.

The identity of the other terrorist is still being verified.

Condolences have poured in for the Army officers from various political leaders. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a financial assistance of ₹50 lakh to the kin of Captain Shubham Gupta and a government job for one of his family members. Adityanath also announced that a road in the district would be named after the late Captain Gupta. Captain Gupta, a resident of Agra district, joined the Indian Army in 2015 and was commissioned in 2018.

Former Chief Ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti expressed their grief over the loss of lives of the Army personnel. Mehbooba Mufti questioned the central government’s claims of normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir when jawans are losing their lives. Omar Abdullah condemned the efforts to spread militancy in peaceful areas of the Pir Panchal region.

The mortal remains of Captain V Pranjal will be flown to Bengaluru, his hometown, on Thursday evening.

These developments highlight the ongoing challenges faced by security forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region. The sacrifice and bravery of the Army personnel serve as a reminder of the constant threat posed by terrorists and the need for continued vigilance and counter-terrorism efforts.
