Hattiesburg Police Respond to Shots Fired Incident on Everglades Street

On Tuesday, November 21st, at approximately 8 p.m., law enforcement officers from the Hattiesburg Police Department swiftly responded to a distress call reporting gunshots in the 70 block of Everglades Street, Hattiesburg.

Upon arrival, the responding officers were promptly informed by a concerned resident that they had heard a gunshot originating from outside their residence. Subsequently, the resident discovered a bullet hole on the second-floor window of their home. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

The diligent efforts of the Hattiesburg Police Department led to the apprehension of a male suspect at the scene. The suspect has been identified as 54-year-old William Wheat, a resident of Hattiesburg. Following his arrest, Wheat has been charged with the serious offense of shooting into an occupied dwelling. He has since been booked into the Forrest County Jail, where he awaits further legal proceedings.
