The Will County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the scene on Shannon Drive in response to a call reporting gunshots fired at approximately 5:46 p.m. The distressing call came from a witness who claimed to have heard an argument followed by the sound of gunshots.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the lifeless bodies of Glendale Heights Police Department Sergeant Michael Huff and his wife, Jackie Huff, lying on the kitchen floor. Both had suffered gunshot wounds and showed no signs of life. Tragically, they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities also recovered a small handgun in close proximity to the deceased couple, indicating that it may have been the weapon used in the incident.

Autopsies conducted on both Michael and Jackie revealed that Jackie had been shot three times in the head by her husband before he turned the gun on himself, resulting in his own fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Heartbreakingly, the couple’s two children, a six-year-old and an 18-year-old, were present in the home at the time of the incident. Fortunately, neither of them witnessed the horrific event. However, the 18-year-old, who heard the gunshots, promptly made the distressing 911 call that alerted authorities to the tragedy unfolding in their home.

Further investigation into the incident has revealed that the Will County Sheriff’s Office had responded to the Huff residence on three previous occasions before the fatal shooting. The first call for service occurred on May 17, 2020, when the couple was out of town. Authorities were summoned to conduct a welfare check after the couple received an alert from a motion alarm.

The second call came on October 14 of this year when Michael contacted the sheriff’s office to report that he had been the victim of a battery. A physical altercation had taken place between Michael and a family member who did not reside in the same residence.

The following day, Jacquelyn requested the presence of the Will County Sheriff’s Office at the residence to assist her in retrieving personal belongings.

As the investigation into this heartbreaking incident continues, the community is left grappling with the devastating loss of a dedicated police sergeant and his wife. The Glendale Heights Police Department and the Will County Sheriff’s Office are working tirelessly to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to this tragic event.
