Dalit Woman Raped in Gwalior’s Barua Village; Accused Threatened to Kill Son

The perpetrator, identified as Puran Kirar, not only violated her but also threatened to harm her son if she dared to resist his advances.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday night when the 32-year-old woman had finished dinner and retired to her room on the upper floor of her house, accompanied by her son. Around midnight, the accused, who happened to be a neighbor residing nearby, gained access to her room through the roof. As soon as he entered, he launched a vicious attack on the woman, exploiting her vulnerability and using her son’s safety as leverage.

Horrified by the woman’s cries, her brother-in-law, who lived in the upper portion of the house, rushed to her aid. However, his attempt to intervene was thwarted as the accused pushed him aside and managed to escape through the roof. Realizing the gravity of the situation, the victim immediately reported the incident to the Women’s Police Station that same night.

The police promptly registered a case against the accused, charging him with breaking and entering, rape, issuing death threats, and perpetrating atrocities against a Dalit. The victim, in her statement to the police, revealed that her husband had gone missing four years ago, leaving her to live separately with her child in a portion of her in-laws’ house.

Despite extensive efforts by the police, including raids conducted at various locations, the accused remains at large. However, authorities have expressed confidence in apprehending him soon and ensuring justice for the victim.
