Appalling Attack in Dublin: Woman and Three Young Children Among Injured Victims

Accident – Death – Obituary News : A woman and three young children were among five people injured in what has been described as an “appalling attack” in Dublin city centre. The incident occurred outside a primary school in Parnell Square East, shortly after 1.30pm. The woman, believed to be in her 30s, and a man in his 50s, remain in hospital with serious injuries. A five-year-old girl is receiving emergency medical treatment, while a six-year-old girl is being treated for less serious injuries. A six-year-old boy has been discharged.

At a press conference, the Garda police confirmed that a male in his 50s, who is also receiving treatment at hospital, has been identified as a “person of interest”. They are not currently searching for anyone else and have ruled out any connection to terrorism.

The attack occurred near Gaelscoil Choláiste Mhuire, an Irish-medium school, where children were queuing for after-school care at the time. Siobhan Kearney, a witness, described seeing a man attacking children with a “stabbing motion” before members of the public intervened and disarmed him.

Following the incident, violent scenes broke out between members of the public and the police. Fireworks were thrown and a car was set on fire.

The Irish Minister for Justice, Helen McEntee, called the attack “appalling” and expressed her sympathy for the victims. She assured the public that the person responsible will be brought to justice.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar also expressed shock at the incident and extended his thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. Sinn Fein president Mary-Lou McDonald said that the community was stunned and horrified by the attack and expressed her hope for the full recovery of the injured.

The scene of the attack has been cordoned off by the police. Five casualties, including the adult male and female as well as the three injured children, have been taken to various hospitals in the Dublin region. An investigation is ongoing, and the police are in contact with the parents of the injured children.

Videos and pictures from the scene show a heavy presence of emergency services. Some members of the public were seen shouting abuse at the police. The incident has left the community in shock, particularly the children who witnessed the attack..
