A 68-year-old industrial mechanic from Chicago has bid farewell to his working days after striking it rich with a $1 million (KSh 152,700,000) win on a $10 (KSh 1,527) scratch ticket. The winning ticket was purchased at Harlem Food and Liquors in Harwood Heights, according to Illinois lottery officials. Mr. M, who frequented the store, had a good gut feeling about the ticket from the moment he saw it. “I chose to take a chance and buy it, and boy, am I glad I did,” he exclaimed.

Kaushik Patel, an employee at Harlem Food and Liquors, shared the joyous moment when Mr. M returned to the store with the life-changing news. “He was so happy, and smiling so big – it couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy,” Patel said.

In a surprising turn of events, Mr. M decided to retire immediately after discovering his windfall. “I was going to retire next year – but now I don’t have to wait. It’s time I focus on what really matters — my family,” he told lottery officials.

Besides his early retirement, Mr. M has ambitious plans for his winnings. He intends to relocate closer to his children to be more present in their lives and spoil his grandchildren. “I’m going to buy a condo near my kids and trade in my car for a pick-up truck to help out my daughter, who is always paying delivery fees for things,” he shared. “I can now be her delivery man, and I won’t charge her a penny.”

This marks the second time Harlem Food and Liquors has hosted a $1 million (KSh 152,700,000) winning ticket, with a similar jackpot sold at the store in September 2022. As a token of appreciation, the store received a $10,000 (KSh 1,527,000) bonus for selling Mr. M his winning ticket.

In a related story, a man filed a federal lawsuit against the mother of his daughter after she disclosed to his family that he had won a KSh 204 billion lottery. The anonymous winner alleges that Sara Smith violated a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) by prematurely revealing his massive lottery win to family members.

People reported that the winner, who opted for a one-time, lump-sum payment of $723,564,144 (KSh 109 billion) before taxes, had intended to keep the windfall a secret until June 2032. This was in accordance with the NDA reportedly signed by Smith. The agreement aimed to maintain confidentiality until their daughter turned 18.

With his retirement secured and plans to support his family in motion, Mr. M can now enjoy the fruits of his lottery victory. It is a life-changing moment that will forever be etched in his memory. Congratulations to Mr. M on his incredible win and may his retirement be filled with joy and happiness!.
