A 23-year-old woman, Jayana Webb, from Eagleville, has been sentenced to 27 1/2 to 60 years in prison after pleading guilty to driving under the influence and causing a fatal crash on an interstate in Philadelphia last year. The crash resulted in the deaths of two state troopers and a pedestrian.

The tragic incident occurred in the early morning of March 2022 on Interstate 95 near south Philadelphia’s sports stadiums. According to the police, Troopers Martin Mack III and Branden Sisca were attempting to assist a pedestrian, identified as 28-year-old Reyes Rivera Oliveras of Allentown, who was in the southbound lanes of the highway. At that moment, Webb’s vehicle, traveling at a high rate of speed, struck all three individuals, resulting in their immediate deaths.

On Wednesday, Webb appeared in a Philadelphia courtroom where she pleaded guilty to three counts each of third-degree murder and homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence. District Attorney Larry Krasner described the resolution as “a just resolution of one of the most shocking incidents of vehicular violence in recent memory.”

Webb’s defense attorney, Michael Walker, stated that his client, who is currently seven months pregnant, will be allowed to remain out of custody until she gives birth in February. Afterward, she will have some time to bond with her child before reporting to prison. Walker also mentioned that Webb expressed deep sorrow and apologized to the families of the victims during the court proceedings.

Earlier court hearings focused on Webb’s blood alcohol content, which was found to be twice the legal limit, and the presence of active components of marijuana in her system. Additionally, Webb’s activity on social media was scrutinized, including a post she made earlier on the morning of the crash, where she claimed to have been stopped for speeding at 110 mph in a 50 mph zone.

The sentencing has brought closure to a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two dedicated state troopers. Trooper Mack, 33, had been serving since 2014 and was assigned to the Philadelphia barracks since 2015. Trooper Sisca, 29, enlisted in 2021 and had recently graduated before his untimely death. Col. Robert Evanchick, the state police commissioner, expressed regret that their bright futures were cut short by this senseless act of violence.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the devastating consequences it can have on innocent lives. The sentencing of Jayana Webb reflects the seriousness of her actions and sends a strong message about the need for responsible and sober driving.
