MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – Authorities have apprehended a suspect involved in a shooting incident that occurred in a Fitchburg apartment complex parking lot on Monday. The incident initially came to light when officers from the Madison Police Department responded to a report of a person shot in Madison at around 7 p.m. The victim, identified as a 25-year-old man, was promptly transported to a local hospital and is expected to survive.

During the course of their investigation, Madison officers deduced that the shooting likely took place in Fitchburg, specifically in the parking lot of an apartment complex located in the 5100 block of Anton Drive.

Fitchburg Police Department Lieutenant-Support Services Edward Hartwick expressed concern about the incident, stating, “Unfortunately, it is a densely populated area where individuals are resorting to gunfire. We are confident that there may be witnesses or individuals with information that can assist our investigation. Even the smallest details that may seem insignificant could prove crucial to our case. We urge anyone with information to contact the Fitchburg Police Department or Madison Area Crime Stoppers.”

Lt. Hartwick emphasized that the shooting does not appear to be a random act, as there seems to have been some form of communication between the suspect and the victim prior to the incident in the parking lot.

Furthermore, Lt. Hartwick revealed that a stray bullet had entered a nearby apartment on Monday night while a family was present inside. Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of the stray bullet.

Over the years, the apartment complex and its surrounding area have witnessed several instances of gunfire, as acknowledged by Lt. Hartwick. Notably, these incidents typically have no connection to the residents of the complex or those residing in high-density housing.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing, with the FPD urging individuals who may have any information to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with relevant details can call 608-270-4300 or provide anonymous tips through Madison Area Crime Stoppers at 608-266-6014.
