BEAVERCREEK — The recent mass shooting at the Beavercreek Walmart has left one woman reflecting on the fragility of life. Carly Norris, who was present at the scene, recounted the terrifying ordeal, stating, “All of a sudden we heard some pops that didn’t even really sound like gunshots.” Norris and her husband were doing their Thanksgiving shopping when Benjamin Jones, a 20-year-old man, began firing shots inside the store.

“We saw a guy run out the doors from between the meat and cheese. We just thought it was an employee or something. We didn’t really think much of it,” Norris recalled. “There was a group of three people coming from the back toward the laundry soap and stuff and I guess they had a different angle, and the guy ran past me and he said ‘he has a gun, he’s shooting, run.'”

In a moment of sheer panic, Norris followed the man’s advice and ran outside with her husband. As first responders arrived at the scene, they quickly drove away. Norris described the chaotic scene, saying, “It was panic. It was sheer panic. I mean, like a stampede out the door.” It wasn’t until later that they learned four shoppers had been shot during the incident.

For Norris, this Thanksgiving holds an extra layer of gratitude. “I’m just thankful that other people that were supposed to be at that Walmart didn’t go like my mom was supposed to be with us. She’s disabled and can barely move… she can’t walk that well. There’s no way she would have been able to run out of that Walmart,” she expressed.

Her husband, Anthony Bronson, added, “You don’t think it’s ever gonna happen to you.” Both Norris and Bronson stated that they would likely not return to the Beavercreek Walmart after the traumatic experience. Walmart has announced that the location will remain closed until further notice.

This shocking incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerability of everyday life. It highlights the need for heightened security and proactive measures to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
