Two Men Dead and One Hospitalized in Cave Junction Shooting; Suspect Arrested

Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : UPDATE, Tuesday at 3:50 p.m.: An arrest has been made in connection with the second Cave Junction shooting that occurred over the weekend. The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office announced today that a “vehicle of interest” related to the Sunday shooting on S Kerby Road has been located and the driver, identified as 21-year-old Cave Junction resident Jessy J Forrest, has been apprehended. Following the diligent efforts of Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Forrest has been taken into custody and booked at the Josephine County Jail. He is now facing charges of attempted murder, first-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon.

CAVE JUNCTION, Ore. — The Josephine County Sheriff’s Office has reported that two men have tragically lost their lives in a shooting incident that took place in Cave Junction on Saturday. In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office also revealed that an unrelated shooting incident occurred on Sunday, which left another man hospitalized.

Responding to calls about a “shooting incident” in the 1700 block of White Schoolhouse Road on Saturday, authorities arrived at the scene to find two deceased individuals with gunshot wounds. Due to the complexity of the case and limited investigative resources, the Sheriff’s Office requested the assistance of the Oregon State Police to lead the investigation. Consequently, the Oregon State Police has taken over the case.

Sheriff Dave Daniel informed NewsWatch 12 that one of the victims was a 15-year-old boy, while the other was identified as a “relative,” although not specified as a father or brother. As the Oregon State Police is now handling the investigation, Sheriff Daniel refrained from disclosing further details at this time.

On Sunday, law enforcement responded to reports of shots fired in the 100 block of S Kerby Road in Cave Junction. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a male individual with gunshot wounds to the upper body. The victim was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

Sheriff Daniel informed NewsWatch 12 that the suspect remains at large, and the victim is a man in his 20s from Cave Junction who sustained three gunshot wounds. Thankfully, the victim underwent surgery and is expected to survive. While robbery or domestic conflict are not suspected motives, authorities continue their investigation to determine the underlying reasons behind the incident.
