In a devastating incident that took place on Tuesday morning, a speeding SUV traveling at 150 km/hour allegedly struck and killed a 9-year-old boy near Janeshwar Mishra Park in Gomtinagar Extension, Lucknow. The young victim, identified as Namish, was the son of a senior police officer. The incident occurred on the G20 road at around 5.30 am, leaving the boy dead on the spot.

Following the heart-wrenching news, the police sprang into action and formed five teams to track down the culprits. Thanks to the help of CCTV footage, the authorities were able to apprehend the two accused individuals later in the evening. The arrested suspects have been identified as Sarthak Singh (20), an LLB student from a private university, and his friend Devshri Verma (22), a B Tech student from another private university. Both reside in Indiranagar.

According to the police, Sarthak was behind the wheel of the SUV when it collided with the young boy. The duo has been charged under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code, which deals with culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The seized SUV belongs to Anshul Verma, a well-known jeweler from Kanpur and the uncle of Devshri, one of the accused.

During the investigation, it was revealed that the accused were recklessly driving and challenging each other to reach a speed of 150 km/hour. They were taking turns driving the vehicle, which ultimately led to the tragic accident.

The victim, Namish, a third-grade student at St Francis College in Gomtinagar Extension, was undergoing skating training under the guidance of his coach, Gaurav Kumar. On the day of the incident, Namish’s mother, Shweta Srivastava, accompanied him to the training session at the parking area outside Janeshwar Mishra Park. However, tragedy struck when the speeding SUV hit Namish at pole number 40 on the G-20 tri-section Pipraghat Road.

Namish’s mother, who was walking a few steps behind her son, witnessed the horrific incident. She was left in a state of shock and devastation as she saw her son lying in a pool of blood, with severe injuries to his head, face, and stomach. The boy was immediately rushed to Sahara Hospital, but unfortunately, he was declared dead upon arrival.

The news of this tragic incident has cast a shadow of grief over the Sanjay Gandhi Puram area in Indiranagar, where Namish’s family resides. The entire police fraternity has been deeply affected by the loss of the young boy. Senior officials, including DGP Vijaya Kumar, Special DGP Prashant Kumar, and Lucknow CP SB Shiradkar, visited Namish’s mother to offer their condolences. Shweta Srivastava, a 2007 batch Provincial Police Service (PPS) officer, currently serves as an additional SP at the state SIT.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, East Zone, Ashish Srivastava, revealed that the police formed five teams to track down the accused. Through a thorough examination of CCTV footage from various locations, including Janeshwar Mishra Park, Gomti Nagar, Gomti Nagar Vistar, Polytechnic Crossing, Kamta Crossing, and Samta Mulak Crossing, the authorities were able to identify the SUV and subsequently apprehend the culprits.

Sarthak Singh, the driver of the SUV, hails from a political background, as his father Ravindra Singh is a Zila Panchayat member in Ramnagar, Barabanki district. Meanwhile, Devshri Verma’s father, Abhishek Verma, is a jeweler.

The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the consequences of reckless driving and the importance of adhering to traffic regulations. The loss of a young life has left the community in mourning, and the hope is that justice will be served for Namish and his grieving family..
