RIVERDALE PARK, MD – Tragic Collision Outside Riverdale Elementary School Claims Lives of Two Young Students
The Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit (CARU) of the Prince George’s County Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into a devastating fatal collision that took place outside Riverdale Elementary School in Riverdale Park on Monday, resulting in the heartbreaking loss of two young students.
The victims have been identified as 10-year-old Shalom Mbah and 5-year-old Sky Sosa, both residents of Riverdale. Additionally, an adult male who was accompanying the children was also struck by the vehicle. Fortunately, his injuries are not considered life-threatening.
The tragic incident occurred on November 20, 2023, at approximately 8:00 am. Promptly responding to the scene located in the 5000 block of Riverdale Road, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department and the Riverdale Park Police Department provided immediate assistance.
Despite the dedicated medical aid provided to the critically injured students, both children unfortunately succumbed to their injuries shortly after being transported to the hospital. The loss of these young lives has deeply impacted the community and left families and friends grieving.

Based on preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation, it has been determined that the driver of the van, an adult female, was traveling southbound on Taylor Road towards Riverdale Road. Upon making a left turn onto Riverdale Road, the vehicle collided with the students and the accompanying adult male who were crossing the street within a designated crosswalk. Remarkably, the driver of the van emerged from the accident unharmed.
