Despite repeated commands from Officer Rogers to drop the weapon, Bobbitt stated he would comply but failed to do so. The pursuit continued down Camden Avenue, until Bobbitt turned and aimed his gun directly at Rogers. In response to the imminent threat, Rogers fired three shots.

Following the shooting, officers immediately provided first aid to Bobbitt while securing the scene. The Louisville Metro Police Department commended Officer Rogers and his colleagues for their actions during the dangerous encounter. Deputy Chief Paul Humphrey acknowledged the difficult nature of their job, stating, “It takes a special type of person to be able to do this job and go out here and do it well. It’s not easy, but it is very rewarding.”

Humphrey emphasized that Bobbitt’s repeated promises to drop the weapon were incongruent with his actions. He stated, “Your words can be nice, your words can say all kinds of things, but if your actions are presenting a threat, we have to handle that threat appropriately.” Bobbitt, who has a lengthy criminal history, now faces additional charges.

Expressing relief that the suspect is no longer a threat, Humphrey stated, “We are fortunate that this individual is off of the streets and hopefully stays off the streets for an extremely long time.” Bobbitt received medical treatment at the hospital before being transferred into police custody the following day.
