In a surprising turn of events, a 42-year-old wanted man, Reynante Eyac, was taken into custody while attending a hearing at the Cebu City Hall of Justice located in the Qimonda building, North Reclamation Area, Cebu City. Eyac, a married man hailing from Medellin town in northern Cebu, had been evading arrest for several grave threat charges.

Police Major Timothy Jim Romanillos, the chief of Medellin Police Station, confirmed that their tracker team successfully located Eyac and served him with three arrest warrants issued by Judge Hyacinth Jasraque of the Municipal Circuit Trial Court of Medellin. Eyac, known as the “bad boy” in their neighborhood, had been eluding authorities for some time.

Despite the serious charges against him, the court allowed Eyac to post a bail of P36,000 for each of the three cases. This decision by the court has sparked controversy and raised concerns among the local community, questioning the ease with which a reputed criminal was able to secure his release.

Commenting on Eyac’s arrest, Police Major Timothy Jim Romanillos stated, “Due to his numerous threats cases in Medellin, he did not show up anymore! We got information that the suspect has a trial for another case in Qimonda, which is why we caught him.” This statement highlights the extensive criminal history and notoriety of Eyac in the region.

Furthermore, Eyac’s neighbors have also lodged complaints against him, alleging that he brandished a firearm to intimidate his opponents. These additional charges further solidify the image of Eyac as a dangerous individual within the community.

This recent arrest is not the first encounter Eyac has had with the law. On May 9, 2023, Eyac and his 54-year-old sister, Ma. Lourdes, were arrested in Barangay Poblacion, Medellin, based on an order issued by Judge Jadraque on April 26, 2023. However, they were released after posting bail.

On July 3, 2023, authorities attempted to execute a search warrant issued by Executive Judge Samson Troy Layese on June 27, 2023, at Eyac’s residence. Unfortunately, Eyac managed to evade capture during the raid. The police did, however, discover a loaded caliber .45 firearm with ammunition at his residence, further implicating Eyac in potentially more serious crimes.

The apprehension of Reynante Eyac serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to bring individuals responsible for criminal activities to justice. It also highlights the importance of community involvement in reporting suspicious activities and cooperating with authorities to maintain public safety.

As Eyac faces the legal consequences of his actions, the residents of Medellin hope for a safer community, free from the threats posed by individuals like Eyac. The court proceedings will determine the appropriate punishment for Eyac’s alleged crimes, providing closure to the victims and the community affected by his actions.
