Police Chase Ends in Crash and Arrest in Monroe, North Carolina

MONROE, N.C. (WBTV) – A dramatic police chase that unfolded in Monroe, North Carolina on Tuesday, November 21, ended in a violent crash, resulting in the arrest of a suspect allegedly tied to numerous larceny cases, according to authorities from the Monroe Police Department.

Law enforcement officials reported that around 4 p.m., alert officers spotted a vehicle that had been linked to multiple larceny cases throughout the city over the past week. Recognizing the opportunity to apprehend the person responsible for these crimes, officers promptly attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle.

However, the driver of the suspect vehicle refused to comply and instead decided to flee the scene, leading officers on a high-speed pursuit through the streets of Monroe, North Carolina, according to statements from the Monroe Police Department.

After a heart-pounding three-minute chase, the suspect lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a violent crash on Hayne Street. Undeterred by the wreckage, the driver attempted to escape on foot in a desperate bid to evade capture. Nevertheless, the swift response of the law enforcement officers on the scene ensured a quick arrest, effectively terminating the suspect’s attempt to evade justice.

The suspect has been identified as 47-year-old Donald Cochran. Authorities have linked Cochran to at least four larceny cases and are currently reviewing additional reports to determine if he may have been involved in any other criminal activities, officials stated.

Following his arrest, Cochran was promptly booked into the Union County Jail. He now faces charges of larceny and felony flee to elude arrest, signaling the seriousness of his alleged crimes and the legal consequences he may soon confront.

The Monroe Police Department commended the diligence and resourcefulness of its officers, who swiftly apprehended the suspect and brought an end to his alleged crime spree.
