Orcutt, CA – A tragic incident occurred early Sunday morning when Mark Lee Rogers, a 33-year-old resident of Paso Robles, was struck by at least one vehicle as a pedestrian. The incident took place on southbound Highway 135, south of Rice Ranch Road, according to multiple reports.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) received a call at approximately 12:34 a.m. reporting a pedestrian lying in the roadway. CHP officers, along with deputies from the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the scene and discovered the lifeless body of Rogers within the traffic lanes. Preliminary investigations indicate that Rogers sustained fatal injuries after being hit by at least one vehicle. The vehicle or vehicles involved in the incident reportedly fled the scene before the arrival of CHP officers.

In response to the incident, Caltrans closed southbound Highway 135 for approximately one hour starting at 2 a.m. on Sunday to facilitate on-scene investigations. The closure caused some inconvenience to motorists, but it was necessary to ensure a thorough examination of the accident site.
