Illinois Man Retires Early Following $1 Million Lottery Win

CHICAGO (Gray News) – An Illinois man turned his luck around this holiday season by winning a life-changing $1 million prize from a $10 scratch-off ticket.

According to the Illinois Lottery, the fortunate winner, known as Mr. M, has decided to retire early, thanks to his newfound wealth.

The 68-year-old Chicago resident expressed his excitement, stating, “I was planning to retire next year, but now I don’t have to wait! It’s time for me to focus on what truly matters, and that’s my family.”

Lottery officials revealed that Mr. M will be able to enjoy a stress-free holiday season after winning the $1 million jackpot while playing the popular 50X Payout scratch-off game.

The winning ticket was purchased at Harlem Food & Liquors in Harwood Heights.

Recounting his lucky day, Mr. M said, “I usually buy different tickets, but on that particular day, I noticed the blue 50X Payout ticket and had a strong feeling about it. I decided to take a chance, and I’m extremely glad I did.”

With his newfound wealth, Mr. M intends to trade in his current vehicle and purchase a condominium closer to his children.

“This money allows me to retire early, and I’m going to move closer to my kids to be more actively involved in their lives. Being a grandfather, it’s finally time for me to enjoy spoiling my grandkids,” he shared with a smile.

This significant win also brings good fortune to the retailer who sold the winning ticket, as the store will receive a cash selling bonus of $10,000.

Kaushik Patel of Harlem Food & Liquors, the store where Mr. M made his purchase, said, “Mr. M is a regular customer who frequently visits our store. He actually bought the very last 50X Payout ticket from our machine. Seeing his happiness and smile was truly heartwarming. It couldn’t have happened to a more deserving person.”
