The bus involved in the accident was en route to Rajkot from Rajgadh in Madhya Pradesh (MP). As the bus was speeding towards Godhra, the twin tyres on the right side of the rear axle burst, forcing the driver, Ketan Chavda, to park the bus near the divider. The bus was rendered immobile due to the damage caused by the burst tyres.

According to Chavda’s statement to the police, he had departed from Rajgadh with passengers headed to various destinations around Rajkot. Sensing trouble with the burst tyres, Chavda managed to bring the bus under control and, along with the cleaner, exited the vehicle. He claimed to have turned on the parking lights and placed branches with leaves behind the bus to serve as a warning for vehicles approaching from behind.

While changing the tyres, a speeding bus crashed into the rear of Chavda’s bus. The impact caused the speeding bus to lose control, veering off the road and colliding with trees and rocks before overturning. Sadly, a woman and her two children who were seated at the back of Chavda’s bus were killed in the accident.

The victims have been identified as Papita Gundiya (30), a resident of Kushanpura in Dhar district of MP, her daughter Muskan (9), and her son Prem (6). The fourth casualty was the cleaner of the speeding bus, Rakeshkumar Hiraram (25), a resident of Vishnunagar Surani in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Road accidents continue to be a significant concern in India, with reckless driving and poorly maintained roads being major contributing factors. The government has been urged to take stricter measures to ensure road safety and reduce the number of accidents.

In recent news, a woman was allegedly abducted and raped by a private bus driver in Jaipur, leading to protests and demands for justice. In another tragic incident, at least 37 people were killed and 18 injured when a passenger bus slid off a highway and rolled down a steep slope in Indian-controlled Kashmir. The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, conveyed his condolences to the families of the victims and announced financial aid for them. Additionally, the economic downturn in neighboring countries, such as Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, has adversely affected commercial vehicle exports from India. Indian OEMs are now exploring export opportunities in the Middle East and Africa to compensate for the decline in exports to neighboring nations..
