PORT ARTHUR — Authorities have identified a local woman who tragically lost her life on Monday night after being struck by a U.S. Postal Service vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

Jefferson County Justice of the Peace, Brad Burnett, has confirmed the victim as Laura Vanessa Martinez-Segura, a 52-year-old resident of Port Arthur.

Following the incident, Burnett has ordered an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

The fatal collision occurred at approximately 6 p.m. in the 4300 block of Procter Street in Port Arthur, leaving the community in shock and mourning.

Port Arthur’s Police Chief, Tim Duriso, disclosed that emergency services were promptly dispatched to the scene and the woman was swiftly transported to a local hospital. Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of medical professionals, she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

In a commendable act of responsibility, the Postal Service worker involved in the accident stopped immediately after the collision and has been cooperating fully with the ongoing police investigation, according to Duriso.

The incident remains under thorough investigation, with authorities working diligently to gather all pertinent evidence and statements to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the tragic accident.
