21-Year Old Merced Man Arrested in Connection to Two Shootings, Including Halloween Party Killing

A 21-year-old man from Merced, wanted in connection to two separate shootings, including the tragic killing of a teenager at a Halloween party, was apprehended without incident on Tuesday. The Merced Police Department Gang Violence Suppression unit successfully detained Darrion Wayne Murphy at the 13000 block of Jefferson Street in Le Grand.

During the arrest, officers discovered that Murphy was in possession of a firearm, as reported by the Merced Police Department’s official Facebook post.

Renzo Arellano, a 17-year-old, was tragically shot and killed during the Halloween party incident that took place on October 27th in Merced. Following a thorough investigation, Murphy was identified as the primary suspect in this senseless act of violence. Additionally, authorities have linked Murphy to another shooting incident at a local 7-Eleven store on November 14th, during which a clerk was shot in the chest.

After his arrest, Murphy was promptly booked into the Merced County Jail, where he now faces multiple charges, including murder, attempted murder, and armed robbery. Jail records indicate that his bond has been set at an amount of $1.75 million.

The Halloween Party Shooting

The Halloween party shooting unfolded when officers received several distress calls reporting numerous gunshots fired in the vicinity of Merced Avenue and Shirley Street in Merced. Rushing to the scene, law enforcement discovered Renzo Arellano with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite immediate medical attention, Arellano sadly succumbed to his injuries.

The 7-Eleven Shooting

The second incident involving Murphy occurred at the 7-Eleven store located at 2255 East Gerard Ave. in Merced. A call was made to the police, reporting a shooting at the premises. The victim was identified as a clerk who had sustained a gunshot wound to the chest. Thankfully, the injured clerk was swiftly transported to a regional trauma center, where he received critical medical care and managed to survive.

The Gang Violence Suppression unit of the Merced Police Department acted swiftly on the information they received, leading to the successful location and arrest of Darrion Wayne Murphy.
