Thiruvananthapuram: A tragic incident unfolded in the Karimadom colony of Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, as a 19-year-old boy named Arshad was mercilessly hacked to death by a gang of seven individuals. The motive behind the gruesome murder was Arshad’s courageous stance against the rampant illicit drug trade plaguing the locality. Arshad, a dedicated member of a youth association actively campaigning against the drugs mafia, paid the ultimate price for his bravery.

According to reliable sources, the Karimadom colony has been infested with the illegal sale of drugs, including MDMA and hashish oil. The locals have long been aware of this issue, which has caused significant distress within the community.

Law enforcement authorities have already detained two residents from the same colony, while the search for the remaining suspects is underway. The investigation into this heinous crime is being conducted with great urgency.

Eyewitnesses revealed that Arshad engaged in a heated argument with the suspects when he vehemently objected to the sale of drugs to the youth in the colony. Out of the seven suspects involved, four hailed from the Karimadom colony itself.

Initially, the accused individuals, who were not residents of the colony, fled the scene when the local residents began to gather during the altercation. However, they returned later, armed with swords, and launched a brutal attack on Arshad in broad daylight. Shockingly, the four suspects from the colony joined in the assault before they all escaped from the spot.

Arshad was immediately rushed to the hospital, but due to the severity of his injuries, he was transferred to the medical college hospital. Tragically, he succumbed to his wounds, leaving his grieving family and the entire community in a state of shock and despair. The young man’s lifeless body now rests in the hospital mortuary, awaiting the post-mortem examination.

KK Suresh, the Manacaud councillor, expressed his anguish over the incident, highlighting the fact that the Karimadom colony has become a notorious hub for drug sales. He further revealed that people from outside the colony frequently visit to purchase drugs, even at odd hours. Suresh criticized the local police for their alleged inaction in addressing this grave issue, pointing out instances where even young children were being exploited as drug carriers by the mafia. He emphasized the existence of previous conflicts with locals who resisted the drug sales.

A case has been registered against the suspects under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including 302 for murder, 506 for criminal intimidation, 341 for wrongful restraint, 323 for causing hurt, 324 for causing hurt using a weapon, and 34 for a crime committed by more than one person. The police are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend all those involved in this brutal crime.

The society mourns the loss of a brave young individual who dared to stand against the drug cartel, and demands swift justice for Arshad’s untimely demise.
