Tragic Dog Mauling Incident in Raytown, Missouri Leaves One Boy Dead

RAYTOWN, Mo. (KCTV) – The community of Raytown, Missouri, remains in shock as an investigation continues into a devastating dog mauling incident that tragically claimed the life of a young boy. The incident occurred on Tuesday, November 14, at a residence situated on the 9300 block of East 77th Street.

Eyewitnesses recall the harrowing aftermath of the attack, initially unaware that a dog was responsible. Upon reaching the scene, Raytown police discovered a 15-year-old male, identified as Makai Williams, lying on the kitchen floor with severe head trauma. Family members present at the time expressed confusion regarding the cause of his injuries.

Emergency Medical Services (EMS) promptly arrived and administered CPR to Williams. Although they managed to restore his pulse, tragically, three days later, he succumbed to his injuries. Melissa Cox, a resident of the neighborhood, witnessed the arrival of the police and ambulance at the scene.

Cox vividly recalls the distressing scene that unfolded before her eyes. “We stepped outside and saw everyone running out of the house screaming, falling out in the front yard. It was horrible,” shared Cox. The blaring sirens of the first responders added to the chaotic atmosphere.

It was only the next day that Cox discovered she had witnessed the aftermath of a vicious dog attack. Authorities confirmed that Williams had died due to injuries sustained in an apparent dog mauling. Police believe the dogs involved were American Bully mixes.

Reflecting on the incident, Cox expressed her conflicted feelings towards certain dog breeds, particularly those with a reputation for aggression. “It was horrible, and I absolutely love my dogs. I had a pitbull that was shot 10 feet in front of me two years ago,” Cox stated. She acknowledged that while she adores pitbulls, she recognizes their potential for aggression, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding.

Cox emphasized, “I don’t know this guy at all, so I’m not saying he bred them like this. But come on, you have to know that they’re aggressive, and you have them around all these kids.” She believes that responsible ownership and breeding practices are crucial in preventing such tragic incidents.

The Raytown Police Department is currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the incident, aiming to gather further details about the circumstances surrounding the dog mauling.
