MADHEPURA: A devastating road accident in Bihar’s Madhubani district has left three individuals dead, including a woman and her seven-year-old daughter. The incident involved the official vehicle of Madhepura district collector Vijay Prakash Meena, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The unfortunate incident occurred on National Highway 57 near Phulparas Chowk in Madhubani district at approximately 8 am. The Madhepura collector’s vehicle was en route back to Madhepura from Darbhanga, a little over 100 kilometers away, when the accident took place, as confirmed by the police.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the car initially collided with Gudiya Devi, a 27-year-old woman, and her young daughter. Tragically, the vehicle then struck two laborers working on the highway. The injured workers were immediately rushed to the Darbhanga medical college and hospital for treatment. Regrettably, one of the laborers, identified as Ashok Singh from Rajasthan, succumbed to his injuries.

Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident to determine the exact sequence of events. While the investigation is ongoing, police officials maintain that it is too early to draw any definitive conclusions.

Soon after the tragic incident, a crowd of enraged individuals gathered at the accident site and proceeded to block the highway in protest. In an act of sheer frustration, someone even vandalized the rear windshield of the multi-utility vehicle involved in the accident.

Efforts to reach Madhepura district collector Vijay Prakash Meena for comments on the incident proved unsuccessful. However, Madhepura district’s public relations officer, Kundan Kumar Singh, later refuted initial reports from Madhubani, asserting that the collector was not present in the vehicle during the accident. Singh clarified that the vehicle had been dispatched for repairs at the time of the incident.

This tragic road accident has sent shockwaves through the community, leaving the residents of Madhubani district in a state of grief and anguish.
