Accident – Death – Obituary News : Roof Collapse at Under-Construction Convention Centre Claims Lives of Two Workers in Moinabad

HYDERABAD: Tragedy struck at an under-construction convention centre in Moinabad on Monday evening when the roof of the building collapsed, resulting in the death of two construction workers and leaving seven others injured. The injured workers were immediately rushed to nearby private hospitals, where they are currently in stable condition.

The incident occurred at Surangal village in Moinabad mandal, where the owners of the property had commissioned the construction of a functions hall-cum-convention centre in close proximity to a private indoor stadium. According to Inspector A Venkat Ranga from the Moinabad police station, the workers were attempting to lay a high roof without any pillars, using only an aluminium support frame. Tragically, while the work was still ongoing, the roof along with a side wall collapsed, leading to the devastating accident.

At the time of the incident, there were a total of 14 workers present at the construction site. Two workers, who were involved in welding and construction work, tragically fell from the roof and suffered fatal head injuries. The remaining seven workers sustained injuries as debris fell on them during the collapse. Fortunately, the other workers managed to escape unharmed.

All the victims involved in the incident are migrant workers from different states. The two deceased workers have been identified as Bablu, aged 35, from West Bengal, and Sunil, aged 36, from Bihar. So far, the police have identified one of the owners of the convention centre as Srinivas. The bodies of the deceased workers were extricated from the rubble with the assistance of the Disaster Response Force (DRF) and have been sent to Chevella government hospital for postmortem examinations.

The police have already notified the family members of the victims about the tragic accident. Inspector A Venkat Ranga stated, “We have registered a case under Sections 304-a (causing death due to rash act) and 337 (causing injuries due to rash or negligent act) of the IPC.”
