Accident – Death – Obituary News : Panchkula: Two students and two teachers sustained injuries when a school bus carrying approximately 30 students and teachers lost control and crashed into the hills. The incident took place as the students were en route to Tikkar Tal, a popular tourist destination in Panchkula, for an adventurous school trip. As a result of the accident, seven individuals were promptly rushed to the Sector 6 civil hospital for medical assistance.
Eyewitnesses from the local community of Morni revealed that the mishap occurred around 11am when the school bus, owned by Guru Nanak Public School in Mullanpur, Mohali, collided with the hills due to the driver’s failure to apply the brakes. The situation could have been far more catastrophic, as the bus narrowly avoided plunging into a deep gorge.
Residents present at the scene reported that seven students and teachers were immediately taken to the civil hospital in Sector 6 after complaining of various injuries. Among the injured were two students, Parneet and Simran, and two teachers, Geeta Sharma and Vinita.
This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for regular maintenance and inspection of school buses to ensure the safety of students and staff. It also highlights the need for strict adherence to traffic rules and regulations by all drivers, especially those responsible for the transportation of school children.
School authorities and parents alike are urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to prevent such accidents in the future. Proper training and supervision of drivers, regular maintenance of vehicles, and strict enforcement of safety protocols can significantly reduce the risk of such incidents.
In recent times, there have been several reports of accidents involving school buses both in India and abroad. Just last week, a school teacher in Kozhikode, Kerala, was arrested for allegedly exposing himself to a minor girl during a bus journey. The accused is now facing charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Similarly, in Hyderabad, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl tragically lost her life after being run over by a school bus in Jawaharnagar. The incident occurred when the girl’s mother was preoccupied with seeing off her older brother onto the bus, and the girl inadvertently walked in front of the vehicle. The driver, unaware of the girl’s presence, started the bus, leading to the tragic accident.
Moreover, in the United States, a fatal crash involving a charter bus carrying high school students occurred on an Ohio highway. The bus was rear-ended by a semi-truck, resulting in three deaths and multiple injuries. This incident further emphasizes the need for stringent safety measures and driver training in the transportation of students.
As investigations into the Panchkula school bus accident continue, authorities must thoroughly examine the circumstances leading to the incident and take appropriate actions to prevent similar accidents in the future. It is crucial for school administrations, parents, and the government to work together to ensure the safety of students during school trips and daily commutes..
