Tragedy struck a Florida community last month when a 31-year-old mother allegedly killed her 5-year-old twins before taking her own life. The shocking incident unfolded in Sanford, as investigators discovered the bodies of Catorreia Hutto and her children, Ahmed and Ava Jackson, who suffered from a disability, at their home.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office revealed on Tuesday that the twins may have suffocated inside their home before their mother drove to a nearby bridge and jumped into Lake Jesup. The Medical Examiner’s findings suggested that the cause of death for Ahmed and Ava Jackson was “homicide by unknown means” with “findings consistent with asphyxia death.”

Asphyxia, which refers to the deprivation of oxygen leading to unconsciousness or death, was identified as a possible cause of the children’s demise. However, the specific details surrounding their deaths remain confidential, as the Seminole County Medical Examiner’s Office has declined to release the autopsy results, citing state laws.

Authorities also confirmed that toxicology results did not indicate the presence of any substances that could have potentially poisoned the children. Nevertheless, the sheriff’s office has not provided further information regarding the circumstances of their deaths.

The devastating incident came to light on October 20 when deputies responded to a distressing 911 call regarding a woman who had reportedly driven her vehicle to the SR 417 bridge over Lake Jesup before jumping into the water. The woman, later identified as Catorreia Hutto, was found deceased, and her body was recovered.

Upon further investigation, detectives discovered that Hutto had two children and resided in Sanford. Tragically, both children were found lifeless on a bed inside their home. The residence, which was part of the Habitat for Humanity organization, appeared sparsely furnished, lacking essential items such as furniture and food.

Seminole County Sheriff Dennis Lemma addressed the media, revealing that there were no prior reports or incidents involving the home or the family. Additionally, no apparent signs of trauma were observed on the children, leaving investigators searching for answers as to how they met such a tragic fate.
