Tragic Road Accident Claims Three Lives in Bihar’s Madhubani District

PATNA: In a devastating incident that occurred early Tuesday morning, three individuals, including two women, lost their lives while one person sustained serious injuries after being struck by an official vehicle belonging to a senior IAS officer in Bihar’s Madhubani district.

The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 8 am near Purwari Tola village on National Highway 57, under the jurisdiction of Phulparas police station in Madhubani district.

The vehicle involved in the unfortunate mishap was assigned to the district magistrate of Madhepura, Mr. Vijay Prakash Meena. It initially collided with a woman and her 7-year-old daughter before crashing into two laborers who were engaged in repair work. The injured victims were promptly rushed to the Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for urgent medical attention. Regrettably, one of them succumbed to their injuries, and the deceased laborer has been identified as Ashok Singh, a resident of Rajasthan.

Amidst the chaos, the IAS officer’s bodyguard managed to rescue the district magistrate from the vehicle, making a swift escape on a two-wheeler and abandoning the injured victims at the scene. Subsequently, a gathering of enraged onlookers vandalized the vehicle, demanding fair compensation for the bereaved families and adequate treatment for the injured victims.

The mother of the 7-year-old girl has been identified as Guria Devi (28).

Eyewitnesses recount that the vehicle carrying the IAS officer was en route to Madhepura from Patna following the conclusion of the Chhath festival. The laborers were diligently working to repair NH-57 under the supervision of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI). Furthermore, during the subsequent investigation, the police discovered three bags within the vehicle.

This tragic incident has once again highlighted the urgent need for enhanced road safety measures in Bihar.
