The teenager, who has been linked to a recent fatal overdose, was apprehended while transporting several packages of powdered fentanyl, according to authorities. This led to his arrest and subsequent federal charges.

The investigation into Martinez began when the Clackamas County Interagency Task Force was called to look into a fatal overdose that occurred in September 2023. Court documents state that during the processing of the overdose scene, law enforcement officials found numerous counterfeit M30 Oxycodone pills suspected to have been produced with fentanyl. It was soon determined that Martinez was the individual responsible for selling the lethal fentanyl to the victim’s dealer.

On November 16, Martinez was located by investigators while he was traveling from California to Oregon. Authorities followed his vehicle and conducted a traffic stop in Gladstone. During a K-9 sweep of Martinez’s car, investigators discovered multiple concealed packages containing over 1,000 grams of compressed fentanyl. Later that same day, a federal search warrant was executed at Martinez’s Gladstone apartment, where a fentanyl manufacturing and distribution operation was discovered. Law enforcement seized additional quantities of fentanyl, along with a 20-ton shop press used for producing fentanyl powder, 10 handguns, an AR-15-style assault rifle, ammunition, and other materials commonly associated with drug trafficking.

Martinez made his initial appearance in federal court on Monday before a U.S. Magistrate Judge. The charges against him highlight the severity of the allegations and the potential consequences he may face if convicted.

It is crucial to note that the illegal drug trade and its associated activities pose significant risks to both individuals and communities. Law enforcement agencies continue to work tirelessly to investigate and disrupt these operations, aiming to protect public safety and prevent further harm caused by dangerous substances like fentanyl.
