Police Launch Manhunt for Suspect in Southern Colorado

(CNN) — Law enforcement agencies are intensifying their search for a suspect involved in a shooting that resulted in the deaths of three individuals and left one person wounded. The incident occurred in a remote area of southern Colorado on Monday afternoon, allegedly sparked by a dispute over property lines.

Details of the Shooting

The tragic incident unfolded at approximately 1 p.m. when an unidentified shooter indiscriminately opened fire on a group of five people, according to Custer County Sheriff Lloyd “Rich” Smith, who addressed the media during a press conference on Monday evening.

Fatalities and Injuries

As a result of the shooting, two men and one woman lost their lives. Additionally, another woman sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the chest but is expected to recover, as confirmed by Sheriff Smith.

Escape and Search for the Suspect

While the assailant’s motive remains under investigation, it is believed that the suspect, identified as 45-year-old Hanme K. Clarke, had engaged in previous civil disputes with at least one of the victims regarding property boundaries. The fifth person present during the incident managed to escape unharmed.

Manhunt and Shelter-in-Place Order

Law enforcement agencies immediately launched a comprehensive search operation, combining aerial surveillance using drones and the expertise of a SWAT team. In response to the ongoing manhunt, authorities issued a shelter-in-place order to residents of the surrounding area at 1:43 p.m. ET.

Suspect’s Whereabouts

As of Monday night, Hanme K. Clarke was believed to be in possession of a white Dodge Ram pickup truck. Sheriff Smith expressed confidence in the progress of the investigation, stating, “We have a very good lead on almost exactly where the suspect and the vehicle are, and we’re working with another law enforcement agency to take him into custody.”
