One More Person Succumbs to Injuries After Shooting Incident in Lakhisarai, Bihar

Accident – Death – Obituary News : Lakhisarai (Bihar) [India], November 21 (ANI): Another individual has tragically passed away as a result of injuries sustained in a shooting incident that occurred in Lakhisarai district of Bihar on Monday. The family, who were returning after performing Chhath Puja, were attacked by unidentified persons, according to police reports. The total number of fatalities now stands at three, with two individuals losing their lives on the spot.

The deceased have been identified as Chandan Kumar, Rajnandan Kumar, and an unidentified individual. The incident took place at Punjabi Mohalla under the Kabaiya police station on Monday morning. The victims were returning home after offering prayers at Chhath Ghat when they were mercilessly attacked.

The Patna Medical College and Hospital administration in Patna has confirmed the latest death. Additionally, four other family members, namely Lovely Kumari, Preeti Kumari, Durga Kumari, and Shashi Bhushan Kumar, were injured in the incident. They were initially taken to Begusarai Sadar Hospital and later transferred to PMCH for further treatment.

Police have revealed that the shooting incident was related to a love affair. Lakhisarai Superintendent of Police, Pankaj Kumar, stated, “The incident took place in Punjabi Mohalla. Six to seven members of a family were returning from Chhath Ghat when one Ashish Chaudhary, a neighbor of the family, opened fire on them. Ashish Chaudhary wanted to marry a girl belonging to the victim’s family, but they were not ready for this.”

A pistol used in the crime has been recovered from the crime scene by the police. Investigation into the incident is ongoing.

In response to the incident, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticized the ruling Janata Dal (United)-Rashtriya Janata Dal alliance. BJP leader Shehzad Poonawalla condemned Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over the “jungle raj” prevalent in Bihar, particularly following his alliance with the RJD. Poonawalla stated, “In Lakhisarai, when some members of a family were returning after offering Arghya (Chhath Puja ritual), they were shot incessantly and attacked without any fear of the law…Since RJD came to power with Nitish Kumar, criminals’ dominance has increased in Bihar, due to which Bihar is turning into Jungle Raj.”
