Man Charged with First-Degree Murder in Road Rage Shooting: Victim Identified as Shane Warn

Accident – Death – Obituary News : DENVER — A man has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with an alleged road rage shooting in downtown Denver that resulted in the death of another driver. Nicholas Moodley, a 31-year-old resident of Englewood, was formally charged on Tuesday for his involvement in the incident.

The shooting took place on November 17, around 4:53 p.m., at the intersection of Park Avenue West and Blake Street, just a block northeast from Coors Field. The Denver Communications Bureau received a report of the shooting from Moodley himself, who claimed to be with the victim. According to an arrest affidavit, Moodley stated that the victim had been following him, brandished a firearm, and attempted to enter his vehicle. Moodley admitted to shooting the victim when questioned by dispatch.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Shane Warn, a 45-year-old man, with multiple gunshot wounds to his chest and arm. Warn was immediately transported to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m., as stated in the affidavit. Police thoroughly searched Warn’s belongings and clothing but found no firearms or weapon replicas.

Moodley was found at the scene alongside his vehicle, which contained a handgun on the front passenger seat. He cooperated with the officers and confessed to shooting Warn, leading to his arrest, according to the affidavit. Two spent cartridge casings were also recovered by the police.

Eyewitnesses provided their accounts to the police, stating that both Moodley and Warn were halted in traffic at the time of the incident. The witnesses recalled seeing Moodley exit his white sedan and subsequently re-enter the driver’s seat, leaving the door ajar. They observed Warn kicking the inside of Moodley’s car door before hearing multiple gunshots. Warn was seen clutching his stomach and collapsing to the ground. One witness even recounted Moodley stepping out of his vehicle to check the victim’s pulse.

When questioned by the police, Moodley requested legal representation and was subsequently placed on an investigative hold. He was then transported to the Downtown Detention Center. On Tuesday, Moodley was officially charged with first-degree murder.

Denver District Attorney Beth McCann voiced her concerns regarding the increasing number of vehicle-related disputes in the city.
