The calls originated from various sources, including people present inside the Walmart, those outside the store, and concerned employees seeking refuge. A store manager, who acted swiftly to protect employees and shoppers, informed dispatchers about the active shooter situation, stating, “I’m in the cash office, I have customers sheltering in place. We have reports of an active shooter.”

Dispatchers encountered a distressing scene as they fielded calls, with screaming and crying audible in the background. Their primary focus was to guide people to safety, urging them to find secure locations. One woman, who had taken cover under a table at the Subway restaurant within the store, told dispatchers, “There’s an active shooter at Walmart… everybody’s running out the door, I’m hiding under the table.”

One caller, who was outside in the garden center, reported a victim with severe bleeding. The caller urgently requested an ambulance, stating, “She is bleeding very bad… there’s a lot of blood. We need an ambulance.” The injured woman was described as having a head injury and intermittently losing consciousness. Another victim, who was able to move despite experiencing injuries, was also identified by the caller.

An eyewitness called emergency services as he watched the shooter enter the Walmart with a rifle. He exclaimed, “There’s a dude who walked in here with a rifle!” Moments later, in a panic-stricken voice, he shouted, “He’s shooting! He’s shooting!”
