Four Dead and Three Critically Injured in Tulsa Shootings, Including 16-Year-Old Boy and 40-Year-Old Man

Accident – Death – Obituary News : TULSA, Okla. — Tragedy struck Tulsa over the weekend as four people lost their lives and three others were left critically injured in a series of separate shootings. The incidents occurred from Sunday evening to early Monday, leaving the community shaken and searching for answers.

The first shooting took place early Sunday in North Tulsa, where the Tulsa Police Department responded to a violent incident that unfolded during a family gathering. The altercation turned deadly, claiming the lives of a 16-year-old boy and a 40-year-old man. The senseless act of violence also left a 15-year-old in critical condition, an 18-year-old likely paralyzed, and a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Later that evening, another shooting occurred near the Arvest Bank on 31st and Mingo St. A man fell victim to the violence and was fatally shot around 6 p.m. Authorities are actively searching for two men believed to be connected to the incident and are urging the public to come forward with any information through Crime Stoppers.

Despite efforts by 2 News crews to gather information from neighbors, many individuals claimed to have not witnessed or heard anything related to the shootings. Some declined to comment altogether, leaving investigators with limited leads to pursue.

The final act of violence occurred shortly before 1 a.m. at a Dollar General store located near East Pine St. and North Yale Ave. The victim was rushed to the hospital but tragically succumbed to their injuries approximately an hour later. The alleged shooter, identified as Thomas Lee Knox, is a tribal citizen, resulting in the investigation being handed over to federal authorities.

The recent surge in violence has raised concerns within the community. According to the Tulsa Police Tracker, there have been 69 reported homicides in 2022. With just over a month remaining in the year, 2023 has already recorded 40 homicides. The weekend’s shootings have yet to be included in the official statistics.

Schuylar Porter, a former Tulsa resident, expressed his shock and disbelief at the recent incidents. Having grown up in the area, Porter reminisced about a time when it was safe to visit and enjoy the community. He admitted that the recent violence has made him reconsider returning to his hometown, stating, “It’s different. Makes you think twice before you come up and visit for the weekend now. We used to come out and hang out and skateboard everywhere, and it was completely fine. That… it is a bit shocking, that’s different.”

As the community grapples with the aftermath of these tragic events, authorities are working tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice. Unfortunately, obtaining updates on the investigations has proven challenging. Lead homicide detective Brandon Watkins was unable to provide any details due to his overwhelming workload, and the Tulsa Police Department Public Information Officers did not respond to requests for comment.

As Tulsa mourns the loss of four lives and prays for the recovery of the injured, it is crucial for the community to come together, support one another, and assist law enforcement in their efforts to ensure safety and justice prevail.
