29-Year-Old Rockford Man Fatally Shot on City’s West Side

A tragic incident unfolded early Friday morning on the west side of Rockford, as a 29-year-old man became the victim of a fatal shooting. The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office has now identified the victim as Floyd Rush, a resident of Rockford.

The shooting took place at around 1:05 a.m. in the 1300 block of Evelyn Street. Upon hearing the gunshots, officers from the Rockford Police Department swiftly responded to the scene, where they discovered Rush lying in the street with a gunshot wound to his torso. He was immediately transported to a local hospital for medical assistance.

According to eyewitness accounts provided to the authorities, Rush was engaged in a heated argument with a woman just prior to the shooting. The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, fled the scene in a vehicle. Rockford Police reported that the vehicle was subsequently spotted on Auburn Street.

Utilizing the collaboration of Loves Park Police and the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement successfully intercepted the vehicle. As a result, Arianna Hawkins, a 26-year-old resident of Rockford, was apprehended and taken into custody. Hawkins has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery with a firearm, and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

Tragically, Floyd Rush was pronounced dead at 1:22 p.m. on Friday. In order to determine the exact cause of his untimely demise, an autopsy was conducted on Monday by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, which revealed that Rush succumbed to a gunshot wound.

This devastating incident has sent shockwaves through the Rockford community, leaving family, friends, and neighbors mourning the loss of a young man’s life.
