Police – Accident – Death – Obituary News : HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation into an ATM break-in at Heritage Federal Credit Union earlier this year. A suspect has been arrested and is now facing charges related to the crime.

According to authorities, the incident took place on August 24, when deputies responded to an alarm at the credit union located on Pearl Drive. Upon arrival, law enforcement officers discovered an abandoned Ford pick-up truck that had been used to forcibly remove the ATM from its pedestal. The ATM had been broken into, and the stolen money had been taken.

In their pursuit of the suspects, the Evansville Police Department utilized a K-9 unit to track the individuals down. Although the perpetrators managed to flee the scene in a separate vehicle, identified as a white Tahoe in security footage, law enforcement agencies were able to gather crucial information. The Flock Safety license plate reader system and the Evansville Police Department identified the stolen truck found at the scene at two different locations in Evansville earlier that morning. In both instances, the truck was observed alongside the white Tahoe.

Further investigation revealed that the pick-up truck discovered at the crime scene had also been reported stolen from Henderson. The white Tahoe, on the other hand, had no visible license plate. However, it possessed “distinguishing characteristics” that facilitated an advanced search using the Flock system. This effort paid off when the Tahoe was spotted on a different Flock camera, this time with a Louisiana license plate.

On August 25, the white Tahoe was finally located by a Flock license plate reader camera in Lafayette, Louisiana. Lafayette Police managed to conduct a traffic stop, but unfortunately, no evidence linking the vehicle’s occupants to the Vanderburgh County ATM theft was found.

Nevertheless, the subsequent investigation conducted by the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO) led to a breakthrough. Detectives interviewed individuals who had been arrested while attempting to steal an ATM using the same modus operandi in Milledgeville, Georgia on October 7. Based on the information obtained during these interviews, the VCSO obtained an arrest warrant for Dmyree Martin, a 21-year-old resident of Katy, Texas.

Last week, Martin was apprehended and is currently being held in the Fort Bend Jail in Richmond, Texas. He faces a $7,500 cash bond and awaits extradition to Vanderburgh County to face charges related to the ATM break-in. Authorities suspect that Martin is a member of the Greenheart Gang, known for conducting ATM robberies across the southern and midwestern United States. The VCSO expressed gratitude towards the U.S. Marshals Service and local authorities in Georgia, Louisiana, and Texas for their assistance in apprehending Martin.

Sheriff Noah Robinson commended the Evansville Police Department for their use of the Flock Safety system, which played a pivotal role in identifying the suspect vehicle and ultimately cracking the case. He also expressed his intention to implement the Flock system in the county in the near future. Sheriff Robinson thanked the Lafayette GA Police Department, specifically, for locating the suspect vehicle. He also acknowledged the Vanderburgh County Prosecutor’s Office for their efforts in securing a high bond level, ensuring that the suspect will appear in court.

The arrest of Dmyree Martin brings hope to the community as they seek justice for the brazen ATM break-in. The collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies across different states have proven instrumental in solving this case, serving as a testament to the determination and commitment of those involved..
