PATNA: In a shocking incident, a 27-year-old man identified as Aashish Chaudhary shot dead his two brothers-in-law and injured four others, including his wife. The accused allegedly suspected his wife, Durga Jha, of having an illicit relationship with someone else. Aashish, who had an intercaste marriage, committed the crime on Monday in Lakhisarai district.

The tragic incident occurred when the victims were returning home from the Chhath Puja ghat. Aashish, who had been absconding since the incident, has been identified as the prime suspect. The police have detained four associates of the accused for questioning.

According to sources, Aashish had eloped with Durga around five years ago, and the couple got married. However, approximately one year ago, Durga returned to her parents’ house. Aashish had been trying to convince Durga to come back to him, but her family members were not willing to accept his request.

“The family members of the victims have been assured compensation, and the district administration will take further action in this regard,” said a police official.

In another tragic incident, two young girls, Sonali and Anuradha, drowned while taking a bath after the morning ‘arghya’ on Monday. The incident took place in Saran district, where the girls had gone to participate in the Chhath Puja rituals. Local witnesses reported that the girls were seen drowning in the river, and a man named Vikram attempted to rescue them but was unable to save their lives. The girls were rushed to a nearby community health center, where they were declared dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Patna, a man named Kailash Sahni drowned in the Punpun river while fishing. His five-year-old son, Hrithik Kumar, witnessed the incident and raised an alarm when his father did not resurface. Local women, who were on their way to offer morning Chhath arghya, noticed the distressed child and immediately informed nearby fishermen. They managed to retrieve Kailash’s body and alerted the police. The deceased was a resident of Khaspur village under the Didarganj police station area. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination at NMCH.

These unfortunate incidents have left the local communities in shock and grief. The authorities are investigating the cases and will take appropriate action based on the findings of the investigations.
