Accident – Death – Obituary News : Whitsett, a quiet town situated in eastern Guilford County, was shaken by a tragic incident of domestic violence over the weekend, resulting in the loss of two lives. On Sunday, November 19, the Guilford County Sheriff’s Department received a distress call concerning a domestic dispute at 6523 Donahue Dr. in Whitsett. Promptly responding to the call at around 6 p.m., sheriff’s deputies were confronted with a grim scene – two individuals were found deceased, both having suffered fatal gunshot wounds.

The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Kimberly Denise Smith and 40-year-old Kevin Michael Smith. The Guilford County Sheriff’s Department, however, has been tight-lipped about the specifics of the incident, offering limited information on the ongoing investigation. In a statement released at 3:30 a.m. on Monday, the department confirmed that the case is being actively investigated as a homicide, yet reassured the community that there is currently no immediate threat to their safety. Notably, the Sheriff’s Office has clarified that they are not actively seeking a suspect.

Although officials have refrained from divulging further details, the absence of a suspect search and the perceived lack of danger to the community strongly suggest a suspicion of murder-suicide. “There is currently no further information to share regarding this ongoing investigation,” stated the department.

Authorities are urging anyone who possesses information about the domestic dispute or the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation. Detective J. Allen can be reached at 336-641-2799, or individuals can choose to contact Crime Stoppers at 336-373-1000.

When questioned by the Rhino Times about the possibility of the incident being a murder-suicide, Detective Allen refrained from comment, citing the early stages of the investigation. However, he did confirm that there seemed to be no immediate threat to the wider community, suggesting that this was an isolated incident.

Sheriff’s Department Public Information Officer Bria Evans echoed similar sentiments, refraining from commenting on the murder-suicide speculation but reiterating the absence of any danger to the community.

While Guilford County’s cities, Greensboro and High Point, have unfortunately witnessed numerous shootings in recent years, it is relatively unusual for such incidents to occur in smaller towns like Whitsett. Boasting an area of less than 3 square miles and a population of under 600, Whitsett is generally considered a peaceful community.

As investigations continue, the town of Whitsett remains in shock and mourning over this tragic event. The loss of two lives serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence, and the community must come together to support one another during this difficult time..
