The incident took place in Punjabi Mohalla as the family members were returning home after participating in Chhath Puja, a religious festival.

Lakhisarai superintendent of police (SP), Pankaj Kumar, revealed that the assailant, identified as Ashish Chaudhary, had married Durga Jha five years ago.
