The fan who tragically lost her life has since been identified as Ana Clara Benevides Machado, a 23-year-old who fainted at the Nilton Santos Olympic Stadium during Swift’s opening night. The cause of her death is currently unknown. Swift expressed her grief and deep condolences to Machado’s family and friends, mentioning that she would not be able to speak about the incident during her shows as it overwhelmed her with grief.
Following Machado’s untimely passing, Rio’s mayor, Eduardo Paes, took action against The Eras Tour production. He declared, “The loss of a young woman’s life yesterday at the show in Engenhão is unacceptable. Obviously, we are still finding out more details about the circumstances of what happened.” The mayor then ordered the municipality’s Executive Chief of Operations to demand action from the show’s production team.
