The BBC also conducted an interview with Anna Korobkova, a prolific informant who claims to have submitted a staggering 1,397 accusations since the invasion. This highlights the extent to which individuals in Russia are utilizing this regulatory framework to settle personal scores and potentially harm others unjustly. One man even recounted a harrowing experience where he was wrongly imprisoned on terrorism charges after a colleague falsely accused him following a heated argument.

The report suggests that the situation in Russia is dire, with arrests being made based on dubious claims from those harboring grudges. Human rights group OVD-Info, which was cited by The Financial Times in February, reported a staggering 20,000 arrests in anti-war protests in Russia. Furthermore, approximately 440 individuals face more severe charges related to their alleged opposition to the war, potentially leading to jail terms of up to 15 years.
