Accident – Death – Obituary News : MISSOULA — A man named Ronald James Duggin has been taken into custody and charged with the shooting and killing of Jeremiah Marker in Bonner, located east of Missoula, on Friday, November 17, 2023. Duggin, who is 44 years old, has been charged with deliberate homicide in relation to Marker’s death.

According to court documents, Missoula County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a man being shot with a handgun at 7797 Antelope Drive in the Bonner/West Riverside neighborhood on Friday evening. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, Jeremiah Marker, and his girlfriend inside a tent on the property. Marker’s girlfriend informed the deputies that Duggin, who was inside the trailer house on the property, had shot Marker.

Marker had suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen and was rushed to a hospital in Missoula. Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries and passed away. At the scene, a woman emerged from the trailer and informed deputies that a man named “Ron” had shot Jeremiah using a semi-automatic .22 handgun that was present in the house. Upon entering the trailer, law enforcement officers discovered a semi-automatic handgun and a loaded magazine in plain sight.

During questioning, Duggin claimed that he had heard strange noises and observed Marker kneeling over a woman who was lying on her back in the tent. Believing that Marker was harming or choking the woman, Duggin asserted that he instructed him to get off her before shooting him with the handgun. Duggin then returned to the house and requested the homeowner to call 911.

Marker’s girlfriend contradicted Duggin’s account, informing the deputies that they had been staying in the tent for the past three days and had only recently returned before the incident occurred. She stated that Marker did not pose a threat to her and that she did not know why Duggin had shot her boyfriend.

Duggin is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Missoula Justice Court on Monday afternoon. He is currently being held in custody at the Missoula County Detention Center.
