At approximately 11:20 pm on Thursday, November 16, the police responded to a property on Senior Road, which is situated near the border with Victoria. The purpose of their visit was to investigate a previous incident. However, upon arrival, the officers were confronted by an armed suspect, resulting in a shooting incident.

Tragically, one of the police officers, identified as Brevet Sergeant Jason Doig, a 53-year-old man from Lucindale, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Despite the efforts of his fellow officers and paramedics, Sergeant Doig’s life could not be saved. Another officer, a 59-year-old man from Bordertown, sustained non-life threatening gunshot wounds and was subsequently transported to Adelaide for medical treatment. Fortunately, a third officer, a 31-year-old woman also from Bordertown, escaped physical harm and provided assistance to her injured colleagues and the suspect.

The occupant of the property, a 26-year-old man, was also shot during the confrontation and suffered serious, life-threatening injuries. He received immediate medical attention at the scene and was then airlifted to Adelaide, where he is currently under police guard. The suspect has been charged with murder and attempted murder, and a bedside hearing has been scheduled for today, Monday, November 20, at the Adelaide Magistrates Court.

Reacting to the tragic incident, Commissioner of Police Grant Stevens expressed his condolences to Sergeant Doig’s family, friends, and colleagues. He described the loss as devastating and acknowledged the difficult time that everyone involved is going through. Commissioner Stevens emphasized that no one expects such a tragedy when going to work, and he acknowledged that it is a sad day for the South Australia Police force. He also paid tribute to all the police officers and first responders who provided assistance at the scene and continue to do so.
